Our customers commonly think Type 1 is Scalpings and we shouldn't forget that crushed concrete is now often certified as Type 1 for the same purpose, although in our opinion not as good a product, due to it's recycled nature containing a lot more fines (dust!).
What exactly is MOT Type 1 - Limestone
MOT Type 1 - Limestone is literally crushed Limestone, meeting the requirement of the Department of Transport Specification for Highway Works, Clause 803. The “SHW”. Type 1 can also be constructed of many other rocks such as Granite or Gritsone, aswell as slag or other hard inert materials. We do stock another variation, MOT Type 1 - Crushed Concrete, although this original limestone quarried product is our preference.
When should I use MOT Type 1 - Limestone
MOT Type 1 - Limestone by its very nature as a Type 1 SHW certified product is a high quality fill or sub-base material and is often used in the construction of car parks, driveways and highways. Although slightly dearer than scalpings it is still often used for other light-use applications such as Paths & Patios etc. Un-like scalpings, as a quarried processed rock material our customers often find it more solid and stable both immediately and over time.
How much do I need?
1 Ton of MOT Type 1 - Limestone will cover 1.98 cubic meters or 10.1 square meters at 50mm thick.
