Often referred to as Type 1 or MOT, here we are describing the Crushed Concrete variation of the Department of Transport approved granular sub-base material, which we refer to as MOT Type 1 - Crushed Concrete.
Our customers commonly think Type 1 is Scalpings or its sister Limestone variation, also Type 1 certified. It's normally produced by the recycling of old concrete and a small percentage of hardcore, so generally produces a lot more fines (dust!) during the production process than a quarried MOT Type 1 Limestone rock variation would.
What exactly is MOT Type 1 - Crushed Concrete
MOT Type 1 - Crushed Concrete is literally crushed concrete, meeting the requirement of the Department of Transport Specification for Highway Works, Clause 803. The “SHW”. Type 1 can also be constructed of other hard inert materials, slag or rocks, such as Limestone, Granite or Gritsone.
When should I use MOT Type 1 - Crushed Concrete
MOT Type 1 - Crushed Concrete is by its very nature a Type 1 SHW certified product for use as a high quality fill or sub-base material, often in the construction of car parks, driveways and highways.
Much like scalpings it's created from a waste product, in this case old concrete versus quarry waste, and hence has been recognized nowdays as a Type 1 product for it's general consistency and content.
Whilst we source our Type 1 - Crushed Concrete very carefully, it is regularly produced by crushers temporarily sited on demolition sites and as a result quality is very poor, due to the in-consistent mix of content, so be very careful when you're buying this product…if it's cheap, there is good reason…you're project will sink!
How much do I need?
1 Ton of MOT Type 1 - Crushed Concrete will cover 1.98 cubic meters or 10.1 square meters at 50mm thick.
